It's strange that this post coincides with St Valentine's Day. There has been talk about a patient being considered for a heart transplant, and I really hope they qualify, have funding, and survive to reach the transplant.
Caring for indigent populations is difficult at times because the patients don't have the access they need for proper outpatient/preventive care, there could be so much more improvement in patient education that hasn't been happening, and people suffer for a long time waiting for a surgery/procedure or medications because they're unable to afford it.
I also hope that if they receive it, they have a good quality of life. It seems like they'll have a difficult journey but each time I see the patient, I do my best to make sure I can do or say at least something that can help them feel better and help them hang in there.
