"How much do you want it?"

Well, my shelf exam is coming up.  As you know, Medicine is one of the major rotations that everyone looks at when you're applying for residency.  It's rough having it as your first rotation because you spend a lot of time learning hospital systems, studying both for the shelf and your patients, and it's a lot of juggling.

Now I'm entering a month-long crunch mode.  I still sleep my usual less-than-five hours like I did in basic sciences, but it's actually pretty survivable to my surprise, since I'm constantly going up and down stairs, walking briskly all the time, with the occasional run.  Medicine in general is a rough thing, because it rewards those who are unbalanced.  I personally can't control my sleep patterns on the weekend, I think it's my body catching up with me.  I think of how much more productive I'd be if I somehow woke up at 3-4am on the weekends, but I guess sleeping in til 7 is going to be good for me in the long term.

With this big exam coming up and a few big ones as well this week, I just ask myself "how much do you want it?" to re-focus myself.

I'm much more about taking time off and resting during rotations, because they're less structured than basic sciences.  But it's time to really get to work.  good luck on your interviews and exams, everyone.
