Thanks for reading. I'm currently on break after the first set of final exams of second year, and have been doing a great job of taking it easy. I've met some of the first years and they seem like a great bunch: friendly, relaxed people.
Second year is a little bit review and a lot of new information; I feel like everything is so relevant and should be remembered for clinics (with some exceptions of course). It's generally better than last year for those reasons, and also, I've formed stronger bonds with my classmates and better friendships. It sounds overly sentimental perhaps, but it's fulfilling having good friendships when you're so overworked, stressed out and coping with so many things going on.
It's so easy to become one-dimensional in medicine, but actually not to bad if you consistently make an effort to appreciate the little things in life and strive to just seize the day and find those things that make you and those around you happy.
Medical school is also a time to do new things: even if it's a low-commitment hobby like photography every now and then. Because the days and months (and even now years) pass by so quickly, it's nice having a record of something fun or fulfilling you did. Partying is great, but I feel like having a record of something creative and outside of your work/study is something that keeps your spirit feeling consistently renewed.
