Warm embers in your heart

I started my day going to grand rounds with a friend I've been getting to know better and then ran into a girl I've liked for years that I find beautiful and intelligent (she actually said yes to drinks), then one of my favorite interns I've worked with.

This intern is awesome, he takes me seriously, is down to earth and treats me like an equal and a friend.  So did the other intern on my heme/onc month.  He always had so many good things to say about me, which I appreciated because often your work and effort can go unnoticed or just not praised because working yourself to near death is just the rule and nothing glorious.

People like that make me feel good about being in medicine, because so many of my interactions are made from the bottom of the hierarchy.

It's hard being a medical student because you're often overlooked as services can be so busy there's no time to teach, or rounds are streamlined as much as possible.  But the good people you meet are the ones to forge bonds with. And they always end up lasting a long time.

    1. Many thanks! I do all my writing for readers like you.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Teaching others is fulfilling and gives you the extra boost and satisfaction to help you get through the day. And when your superiors take you seriously and make you feelblike part of the team, it's a great feeling.

All the best in your training!
