Cameras with a surgeon

This was several months ago, but printing out a research article in tiny font to get two pages per sheet reminded me of a conversation.

I was in the OR lounge, studying on my Kindle with a tiny font.  An older gentleman in scrubs with a Slavic accent leaned over and asked if I was really able to read the words on it.

We ended up talking about Kindles, cameras, photography, and technology.  He got up at some point to get something to eat and brought back freshly made cookies.

Before I had to leave for the case, I learned he was a heart surgeon.

I really just imagined all heart surgeons were intense, and that most surgeons were unidimensional.

I'm glad I remembered to write this entry, because I didn't want to forget a moment on a busy service where I got to connect with someone and reflect on life outside of the training that consumes so much time, energy, and well being.
