Operating on Children

It's been a very physically draining week at the children's hospital.  I feel like I'm much more tired, lightheaded, thirstier, hungrier and weaker this time around.  I'm aggressively taking care of myself to meet the demands.  Just the other day I spent 3 hours holding one retractor with all my strength or dual-wielding retractors in the same surgery.

The part I enjoyed the most this past week was working with attending surgeons who let you participate in a case by letting you make incisions and use electrocautery, as well as suture and get practice in subcuticular sutures.  The attendings are really positive and encouraging, it's been a great time.

I'm glad I'm out of the emergency centre and that I'm back to making a difference in the operating room.  So far, so good.  Looking forward to vacation and graduating someday.
