Before Trauma Surgery

I'm ready to have a look into the world of trauma surgery within the next couple of weeks.   I've seen a good amount of general surgery, surgical oncology, and pediatric surgery, so now I'm ready to expand my experience.

Briefly, I really recommend everyone in medical school to try everything once because you never know where you'll find your passion.  Even though we do core rotations, there are things you miss out on if you don't pursue them because they're not included in the curriculum.

I've been interested in trauma for a while, and felt like I actually accomplished something as a medical student on rotations by stopping bleeding in patient who was on two different blood thinners.  If you took the months I spent on internal medicine and put them together, they wouldn't add up to this feeling I got of excitement and accomplishment from stopping a wound from bleeding.

So far, I'm developing a passion for the field of surgery, because you fix problems and help cure patients.  I'm very fortunate to be having a great time on my surgery rotation, and at least on my time through it so far, I want to tell everyone I haven't experienced any abuse, cruelty, disrespect, nor have dreaded going to the hospital in the morning.

In my experience, the surgeons I've worked with are excited to teach and eager to have you on board to assist in their case.

Overall, a good time.  I'm very interested in seeing what the world of trauma surgery is like, and if I'll find my passion there.
