The Whole Heart

Hey everyone, and thank you for reading.

If I remember right, there was a blog entry by Buckeye Surgeon that discussed practicing medicine "with all of your heart."  I'm really happy I came across it, because it helped me find a way to succinctly describe what I've been thinking about lately, pursuing something in medicine that I can follow with my entire heart, not just part of it.

I want little else career-wise than to retain my optimism and my sincerity in helping people become healthy again in medicine.  You hear so many stories about doctors quitting, about doctors discouraging young people about medical careers, and that can really get to you.  But then, you also have to find those people who LOVE what they do, and who love it so much that they just have this radiant smile and shimmer in their eyes of excitement and happiness when they talk about it.  When they smile and are animated not just because their pediatric patient is fun, but because they love what they do day to day.

We can't forget those people and how they positively affect us.  Dear pediatric neurologist and pediatric infectious disease doctors that I've had the great pleasure to know, you guys are really inspirational and incredible physicians.

I felt a little stressed earlier thinking about the changes medical school and a medical career bring, but thinking about those doctors really turned things around for me.

I hope I meet physicians and students in med school who are as colourful and inspirational as those doctors, and also, I hope to show my own similar sides to fellow students, because I can already tell medical school is going to be challenging and that we're all in this together.

Cheers and stay positive.
